This is my research on Figure Drawing for one coursework.
These images are examples of other artist's work including Degas. These influenced my drawing.

This picture by Degas is brown on brown and is very effective. It is a fast sketchy style and he has left the legs partly unfinished for the mind to imagine which is very effective. His hilighting in white finishes the picture off nicely. I like the folds on his left arm. |
Here Degas has concentrated predominantly on the folds and contours in the scene. The rest is left to imagination. In my piece I want to create these folds. |
These drawings of ballet dancers are drawn very fast and Degas was trying to capture a single frame in time so he had to work quickly. |
Here Degas has only drawn the shadows and this is very effective because your mind makes up the rest. Also I think the select use of colour in the hair is brilliant. |
This is another quick drawing but here he has made the illusion of movement by drawing the arm in two possitions like a long exposure photograph.

Seated Figure by John Duncan
Here Ducan has used colour and has created the folds very well. It also shows how to draw hands that are linked. |
Henri Matisse seated figure.
This figure has crossed legs like my figure and shows how to use shadow and shape in the limbs. I will not look straight on because I don't like the composition. |
