Research on Vincent Vangogh for one coursework.
Gogh, Vincent (Willem) van (b. March 30, 1853, Zundert, Neth.--d. July 29, 1890, Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris), generally considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt; he powerfully influenced the current of Expressionism in modern art. His work, all of it produced during a period of only 10 years, hauntingly conveys through its striking colour, coarse brushwork, and contoured forms the anguish of a mental illness that eventually resulted in suicide. Among his masterpieces are numerous self-portraits and the well-known The Starry Night (1889).

The stary night.
This painting shows perfectly how Van Gough took a simple looking thing like a night sky and turned it into a fantastic supernova of shape and colour all out of his mind. He does this with many objects in his pictures and it makes them very attractive. |

Portrait of Doctor Gachet
This portrait shows well how Van Gogh used his brush. He made many small strokes of different colour perfectly aligned which all together created a wonderful picture and an amaising unmissable style. I will be trying to use this technique in my picture.

The Famous Irises.
The irises are a very famous set of paintings by Van Gogh. He has incorporated his style into them very effectivly and given them character. I would like in some way to incorporate these. |
|
Blossoming Almond Tree.
I am going to have some branches in my picture for the lion to sit on so these small twigs show me how he did them. He cleverly made them blured in the background.

Olive Trees
I love the sky in this painting. It looks very hot and would be very effective in my African scene. The trees are in typical Van Gogh style. |

Landscape Near Auvers
This painting shows how Van Gogh painted wild grassland and undergrowth. It is very colourful and has lots of character.

Wheat Field and Cypress
I like the colours in this sky and the mountains in the background could be used in my picture. |
